No UGC NET June re-test, urge parents association as CBI denies paper leak

The India-Wide Parents Association (IWPA) has written to the Ministry of Education, National Testing Agency (NTA), and University Grants Commission (UGC) urging them not to conduct a re-exam for the UGC NET June session 2024.

The exam, which saw over 9 lakh candidates appear across 317 cities on June 18, was cancelled on June 19 after inputs from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) suggested the integrity of the examination might have been compromised.

The UGC NET exam determines the eligibility for assistant professor positions and junior research fellowships in Indian universities.

The IWPA argued that a UGC NET re-exam is unwarranted and would be unjust to the candidates who have already taken the test.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out any paper leak, supporting the association’s plea to release the results without delay.

The letter from IWPA states, “These aspirants have already cleared the exam without any unfair means as investigated by CBI that there was no leak.”

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL STRAIN ON STUDENTS

The association highlights the adverse effects of the uncertainty on students, mentioning that many are suffering both mentally and physically due to the ongoing situation.

They pointed out that the government decided not to cancel the NEET UG exam even in cases of paper leaks, advocating for similar consideration for UGC NET candidates.

CALL FOR IN-HOUSE ENTRANCE EXAMS

In a related development, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is considering returning to its traditional in-house entrance examinations for PhD admissions, potentially ending its reliance on the NTA.

Official sources indicated that a final decision would take approximately eight weeks.
