UGC Directs Colleges And Universities To Create Courses To Increase Employability Of Graduate Students

To increase the employability of graduates, universities and affiliated colleges across the country should discuss with leading IT companies and create industry-focused courses. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given directions that credits can be given for these courses.

UGC Secretary Prof Rajnish Jain has released a circular in this regard. Under the ‘National Skill Qualification Framework’ (NSQF), UGC has released guidelines for conducting skill development courses.

NSQF emphasizes knowledge, skills and aptitude. Therefore, it has been mentioned that if a course with credits is created by the industry, the relevant course must be equivalent to NSQF.

Prof Jain said, “In this background, it is necessary for the higher education institutions to interact with the industry sector and information technology companies to create and promote industry-oriented courses. Credit may be awarded for these courses. These courses will help in increasing the employability of graduate students.”
