Inbound & Outbound Activities, Corporate Insights, and Grand Valedictory: Day 3 of IPM Orientation at IIM Jammu


The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, concluded the third day of its orientation program for the fourth batch of the Integrated Program in Management (IPM) on August 24, 2024, at the Vivekananda Classroom, Jagti Campus.

The day commenced on a refreshing note with a session titled "Maximize Happiness and Mindfulness," led by Mr. Sahil Mehra, a renowned Yoga Guru, and coordinated by Team Anandam. This early morning session, held at the Canal Road Campus, set a positive tone, emphasizing the importance of mental and physical well-being as the students embarked on their journey at IIM Jammu.

Following this, the students participated in a series of inbound and outbound activities designed to foster creativity and interaction. They were randomly organized into groups and tasked with creating individual personality snapshots using the medium of their choice, which they then shared with their batchmates. This exercise allowed students to introduce and express themselves creatively, contributing to an engaging and interactive session. The session was conducted by Dr. Gaana. J, faculty, IIM Jammu and Dr. G. Kahmei, faculty, IIM Jammu. Dr. Gaana J.  Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu, emphasized the importance of recognizing the value of surrounding oneself with others and striving to be authentic, as this approach allows individuals to learn from the strengths of those around them.The day continued with insights from distinguished speakers. Dr. Vivek Sharma, Chief Innovation Officer at the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Skill Development (CEISD), IIM Jammu, highlighted the rapid evolution of the world into a VUCA environment—Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. He emphasized that in such a landscape, entrepreneurship emerges as the only viable path forward. He noted that the students are at IIM Jammu not just to learn about administration and business, but also to understand the direction in which the world is headed.

Ms. Sonal K. Joshi, Associate Director - Global HR Shared Services, WTW, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of curiosity. She highlighted that the IPM program is designed to lay a solid foundation, preparing students for the challenges they will encounter in the corporate world. She encouraged the students to remain curious, stating that asking the right questions is essential to venturing into their desired domains. She also urged them not to be afraid to face their fears.

The day culminated in a grand valedictory ceremony, which was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu. 

In his address, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu emphasized that the students are the future of the nation. By 2047, when India will be a developed country, they will be holding significant positions in their lives. He encouraged them to believe in themselves, as this self-belief will enable them to achieve remarkable things. He assured the students that IIM Jammu, though one of the youngest IIMs, aspires to be among the finest B-schools in India and across the globe. With their participation and commitment, they can realize all their aspirations at IIM Jammu. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and contributing meaningfully to the institution. He stressed the significance of being compassionate towards society, keeping the nation first, and serving the country with dedication. He underscored the value of academic excellence, honesty, and the joy of sharing and encouraging students to embrace their responsibilities as future leaders.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, addressed the students, providing an overview of the program's purpose and what lies ahead in the next five years. He discussed the academic rigor, rules, and the peer-competitive environment that students will experience at IIM Jammu. He encouraged students to set clear goals, actively engage in campus life, and take advantage of the opportunities to shape their dreams and paths.

Dr. Niti Shekhar, Co-Chairperson, IPM, IIM Jammu, welcomed everyone to the valedictory ceremony and offered an overview of the three-day power-packed orientation program.Students then shared their reflections on the orientation program, expressing their experiences and learnings at IIM Jammu. The ceremony concluded with the national anthem and group photo, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Niti Shekhar, Co-Chairperson, IPM
