Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) organized the 2nd Management Case Conference (MCC 2023) on November 03-04, 2023 in Online Mode. This two-day conference served as a platform for academicians, research scholars, executives, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from academia, industry, government, social, and non-profit sectors for a confluence of minds and exchange of ideas on the pressing business issues of the day that have consequences for all stakeholders.
The event started by virtual lamp lighting and a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Rana Singh, Director, CIMP. He welcomed the keynote speaker and participants. The Director CIMP emphasised the importance of case as a pedagogical tool in effective management education. He also highlighted that how the case depository with indigenous examples can add more value to budding managers and guided with institutional initiatives to be taken for higher productivity. He further briefed the presenters and other participants who have joined from many eminent institutions and corporate namely IIT Kanpur, NMIMS, IMT Hyderabad, Apeejay School of Management New Delhi, Tata Consultancy Services, Central Leather Research Institute Chennai, School of Commerce, Christ, Gaziabad, Adroit Associates, CIMP, KLS Institute of Management Education and Research Karnataka, Vissvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka etc.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Prashant Gupta, Professor at IIM-Nagpur, India where he discussed the history of Business Education starting as early as 1881 at Wharton Business School, USA and the success of Business education in USA that spread across the world later on. He also discussed why cases need to be considered as a teaching pedagogy, because, it includes critical thinking, it is also aims at problem solving, as well as collaboration and helps in decision making under uncertainty situation. At the end he said the role of facilitator/teacher is important in deciding the nature of supplement to be given in class in terms of case lets, case study, storytelling etc.
The conference was conducted in two technical sessions, with a total of 14 cases papers presented by various institutes out of which seven cases were presented on day one in the 1st technical session and seven cases were presented on day two in 2nd technical session. In the last two days, cases were presented on many important issues like leadership style, utilization of human resources, financial restructuring, sustainability, green human resources management, digital payments, happiness quotient, financial literacy, and corporate governance in acquisition etc.
A Case Development Workshop under the aegis of 2nd Management Case Conference (MCC 2023) was also held on 3rd-4th November, 2023 at 07:30-09:00 PM. The Key Speaker for the Workshop was Dr. Vijaya Zinnoury, Associate Professor from Danials College of Business, University of Denver, USA. This case workshop was intended for session delegates, post graduate students, doctoral students and faculties to develop the case writing and teaching skills in higher education effectively and efficiently.
Finally, in valedictory session, Prof. (Dr.) Sibananda Senapati summarized the conference papers and boosted the spirits of the attendees with his inspirational words in the valedictory note. The Best-Case Award and a prize money of INR 20,000 was awarded to Dr. Sumanth P Desai from KLS Institute of Management Education and Research, Karnataka, who presented his paper on the topic, “An ounce of change”. The 2nd prize and a prize money of INR 10,000 was awarded to Dr. Surajit Ghosh Dastidar from IMT Hyderabad, who presented his paper on the topic, “Mayora: Positioning Kopiko”. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Kumar, Member, MCC 2023.
