Para swimmer Shams Aalam creates New Record

India’s Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh has set the new national record in men’s 200m Individual Medley SM5 event at the ongoing World Para Swimming Championships. Shams Aalam clocked 4:39.71, bettering his previous record of 4:43.39, and finished sixth in the heats on Wednesday. The 35-year-old has set a world record for the longest open water swim by a person with paraplegia. He swam eight kilometers in four hours and four minutes in the sea off the coast of Goa in 2017. The record was recognised by the Limca Book of Records in India. He was also awarded with the award for best sportsperson with disability by the President of India in 2021. #ShamsAlam #ParaSwimmer #LimcaRecord
