The National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the application window for UGC NET December 2024. Interested candidates can register on the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in, until December 11, 2024, at 11:50 PM. The examinations are scheduled between January 1 and January 19, 2025. Detailed schedules and admit cards will be released closer to the exam dates.
New Opportunity for 4-Year Undergraduate Degree Holders
In a groundbreaking update, the University Grants Commission (UGC) now permits candidates with a four-year undergraduate degree to appear for UGC NET for PhD admissions. This policy, announced in April 2024 by UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar, signifies a major change in eligibility standards.
To qualify under this criterion, candidates must have achieved a minimum of 75% or equivalent grades in their four-year undergraduate program. Previously, a master’s degree with at least 55% marks was required to appear for the NET. Candidates from reserved categories, including SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and economically weaker sections, are eligible for a 5% relaxation in the required marks.
Eligibility for Assistant Professor Roles Unchanged
While this policy expands opportunities for pursuing PhD programs, it does not extend to assistant professor roles. As per UGC guidelines, a master’s degree remains mandatory for eligibility in these positions.
Application Process
Candidates must provide key details, including program name, passing year, university, and location. Those awaiting final year results can also apply. The application process remains consistent with previous cycles.
The deadline for submission and payment is December 11, 2024. For further details, candidates can refer to the official notification and instructions on the UGC NET website.
