UGC extends last date to submit feedback on draft regulations for Foreign Universities in India to Feb 3


University Grants Commission, UGC has decided to extend the last date to submit feedback on the draft regulations issued for setting up of Foreign Universities in India. As per the official announcement made by UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar and the notice issued on ugc.ac.in, the last date has been extended to February 3, 2023. Initially, the last date to raise objections for January 18, 2023. However, UGC has now decided to extend this date till February 3, 2023.

“In view of the requests being received from the stakeholders to extend the last date for submitting comments/suggestions/feedback on the aforesaid draft Regulations, the last date for receiving comments on the draft regulations is hereby extended to 3rd February 2023,” read the official notice issued by the commission.

UGC introduced its draft regulations for UGC (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations 2023 on January 5, 2023.

Through this, UGC-approved universities would be allowed to set up their campuses in India. These regulations have been introduced keeping in mind the implementation of the National Education Policy, NEP 2020.

Once a foreign university sets up its campus in the country, the UGC approval would be offered for the first 10 years and would be renewed from there on. As per the regulations, UGC has stated that Foreign Universities who do wish to set up campuses in India must ensure that the quality of education and courses offered should be at par with those at the home campus.
