President Droupadi Murmu confers medals & degrees to meritorious students of AIIMS Patna


On the second day of her visit to Bihar, President Droupadi Murmu conferred medals and degrees to meritorious students of AIIMS Patna. President Murmu today emphasised working for the holistic health of people while synchronising the modern and traditional systems.  

Addressing the First Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS, Patna, the President said the incorporation of all traditional systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani and Siddha is the need of the hour. She said AIIMS is playing a pioneering role in this field. The President called upon AIIMS and other medical institutions to develop a system for the treatment of mental health-related ailments.
 
She rued for the poor national average of the Doctor-Patients ratio and Nurse-Patients ratio. There is a need for a large number of skilled doctors and nurses in the country.  
The President mentioned that the paramount aim of the medical profession should be providing quality and affordable treatment to poor people.  She praised the decision of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2003 to open new AIIMS across the country. 

Governor of Bihar Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar were also present at the function. 

The AIIMS Patna which was started under Prime Minister Swasthya Surksha Yojna (PMSSY) in 2013 as a 19-bed hospital has now a 960-bed facility for patients. The Director of AIIMS Patna Dr. GK Pal said the average footfall of patients per day is around five thousand and its IPD occupancy remains about 75 percent of installed strength.

The AIIMS, Patna had played a pivotal role in the treatment of patients during the period of the Covid pandemic as a Covid Nodal Hospital of Bihar.
