Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) announces the institute’s Distinguished Alumnus Awards 2022 for various categories and celebrates the achievement of the awardees. The Distinguished Alumnus Awards (DAA) are given to alumni of the University of Roorkee (UOR) or IIT Roorkee (IITR) to recognize their outstanding contributions in any of the six categories listed below. The contributions should be self-evident to the peers in the category, namely Academic or Research Excellence, Excellence in Engineering or Technology Innovation, Excellence in Leadership in the Government or Public Sector, Excellence in Leadership in the Private Sector, Entrepreneurial Excellence, Excellence in Service to the Society. The Distinguished Young Alumnus Awards (DYAA) is conferred on IIT Roorkee alumni below 40 years.

The Outstanding Service Awards (OSA) recognizes Excellence in Academics and Research by strengthening the IIT Roorkee community’s academic, research and development efforts. By enabling faculty and students to showcase and promote their work nationally and internationally. And by promoting Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy from State or Central Government or private industry.

Prof. Ambrish Chandra has been a Professor of Electrical Engineering with the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS), Montréal, QC, Canada, since 1999. Prof. Chandra’s most distinctive work is advancing new theory and control algorithms for power electronics converters in the following two areas: 1) power quality improvement in distribution systems and 2) integration of renewable energy sources to distribution systems with improved power quality features.

Dr. Amit K. Gupta is Head of Rolls-Royce Electrical at Rolls-Royce Singapore Pte Ltd. Dr. Gupta has driven electrification and made significant technological contributions over the last two decades. He has advanced technologies and innovation through his industrial, research and academic work.

Prof. Bharat Bhasker is presently Director at IIM Ahmedabad. He obtained his PhD and Master’s in Computer Science at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA. Prof. Bhasker has held various visiting academic positions such as International Expert Advisor at the University of Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia, International Expert, Research Grants at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Visiting Professor at the ESSEC Business School, Paris, France, among others.

Shri Vinay Kumar Tripathi, Former Chairman, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways (from 01-01-2022 to 31-12-2022). Shri Tripathi joined Railways through the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) in the 1983 Batch. In his distinguished career, Shri Tripathi has successfully discharged the duties of important post of the Electrical Department on Northern, Central & Western Railways.

Shri Kamal Bali, President & Managing Director at Volvo Group, India. Kamal Bali has been spearheading reputed Indian & multi-national organizations as President & CEO for two decades. Since April 2014, he has served as the President & Managing Director of the Volvo Group, India.

Mr. Rajat Shikhar, Co-Founder & CPTO at Dealshare, has been part of the Indian e-commerce ecosystem for more than 15 years and has contributed to building products and technology from e-com 1.0 to social commerce.

Ms. Rashmi Verma, Co-Founder & Director, MapmyIndia. She is one of India’s first woman tech entrepreneurs. Armed with the problem-solving capability offered by the rigorous engineering education offered at IIT Roorkee (then the University of Roorkee) and subsequent MS at Eastern Washington University, USA.

Shri. Harish Kumar, Founder- Ability on Wheels, is a differently-abled person with a passion for driving. In 2012 he became the first physically challenged person in the country to successfully complete an All India Driving Expedition, creating a new National Record in the Limca Book of Records.

Mr. Saurabh Sancheti, Group CFO – Jio Platforms, is an accomplished business leader with a successful track record of scaling multiple businesses across media, the internet, and digital platforms. Mr. Saurabh holds multiple accolades like Economic Times 40 under forty, Fortune 40 under forty and the Young Distinguished Alumni award from IIM, Ahmedabad. Saurabh is a techie at heart and has been part of the prestigious “Young Scientist Research Program” by the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt of India.

Mr. Nishant Chandra, Co-Founder of Newton School, actively explored the depths of building democratic educational models.

Mr. Siddharth Maheshwari, Founder, Newton School, Through its unique pay-after-placement model, it democratises access to software development education. It allows people to cross financial and geographic barriers to achieving their dream of becoming a software developer.

Shri. Mohinder L. Nayyar is an ASME Life Fellow and recipient of the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Roorkee. Shri Mohinder Nayyar is an internationally recognized specialist in piping, valves, materials and codes and standards. Shri Mohinder Nayyar initiated the establishment of the IIT Roorkee Foundation in the US.

Shri. Pradeep Kumar is a Technical Advisor at Eicher Motors Ltd. He started his career at Tata Motors Ltd as Graduate Apprentice Trainee in 1972 and impressed the organization to select him as the Director and GM executive assistant.
