IIT Gandhinagar announces second e-Masters degree Programme in ‘Data Science for Decision Making’ – Admissions open for the first batch of May 2024

In today’s fast-evolving digital world, data is now at the centre of global trade for making high-impact decisions. In line with this increasingly crucial field and growing demand for skilled data scientists, the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has launched its second e-Masters degree programme in “Data Science for Decision Making” (DSDM) and opened the admission portal for the first batch starting from May 2024.

In an age marked by remarkable advances in data sciences, there remains a formidable challenge – effectively translating this knowledge into informed decision-making. The e-masters in Data Science for Decision Making (DSDM) programme by IITGN serves as a pioneering endeavour for upskilling industry executives and working professionals in data science education and translating their data science prowess into the art of making strategic decisions.

Unlike traditional constraints that often limit educational offerings to specific departments, the meticulously designed curriculum of e-Masters in DSDM at IITGN is inclusive, innovative, and insightful. Practitioners from diverse backgrounds, including engineering, science, business, or any other field, can join this programme that offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to data science and its application to drive tangible outcomes. Through rigorous coursework and real-world applications, the programme aims to equip students with the tools, skills, and mindset required to navigate this dynamic landscape.

The two-year programme is designed with a flexible, executive-friendly structure to enable enrolled candidates to concurrently accommodate their work commitments. It will have live interactive sessions in the evenings and on weekends, assisted by self-paced learning modules for strategic learning and discussions. Working professionals and students with a graduate degree in a relevant field (such as  Statistics/ Mathematics/ Computer Science/ Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Economics/ Commerce) can submit their applications online on the programme portal.

Sharing more insights, Prof Udit Bhatia, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator of the e-Masters in DSDM at IITGN, said, “In an era abundant with advanced tools, techniques, and generative models, the discourse on the precedence of machines over human intelligence continues to unfold globally. Despite these advancements, the quintessential human faculties—namely, the ability to pose pertinent questions, critically evaluate the resulting answers and alternatives within context, and adeptly translate these into actionable decisions—remain unparalleled and irreplaceable. The e-Masters programme in Data Science for Decision Making (DSDM) is meticulously crafted to address this, aiming to equip individuals from various backgrounds and specialisations with the knowledge to leverage these advancements for enhanced decision-making processes.”

Notably, the e-Masters programme does not have requirements of GATE qualification for admission or thesis requirement for graduation. The programme participants will rather work on two of the real life Capstone Projects and gain hands-on insights to handle industry projects.

On successful completion of this degree programme, the candidates will get IITGN Alumni status as well as mentorship and placement support from the Institute. During the programme, participants will also get the opportunity to meet the experts during their 30 days of visits, spread over the two years, to the IITGN campus.

This is the second e-Masters degree programme launched by the Institute, with the first being an e-Masters in ‘Energy Policy and Regulation’, which started in the first week of January 2024.
