IIM Ranchi joined the nationwide celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga by organising the campus-wide event ‘Yoga Sangam’, in line with the initiative led by the Ministry of Ayush. Embracing this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” the event marked a significant moment as it coincided with the completion of a decade since the inception of International Day of Yoga in 2015.
IIM Ranchi has officially registered as a ‘Yoga Sangam’ organiser under the #IDY2025 movement. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the IIM Ranchi community, with 382 attendees, both offline and online, including faculty, staff and students.
The celebrations began with a live screening of the national event held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi led the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations. The session featured addresses by key dignitaries, including Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh; and Shri Konidala Pawan Kalyan, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. A commemorative stamp by the Department of Posts marking the 11th International Yoga Day was also released by the dignitaries.
In his keynote, the Hon’ble Prime Minister emphasised yoga’s global relevance and its unifying power across age, nationality, and background. He recalled India’s successful proposal to the United Nations in 2014 to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day, supported by 175 countries. Speaking from Visakhapatnam, he described yoga as a universal gift that promotes health, harmony, and consciousness.
Following the livestream, the Yoga Sangam session at IIM Ranchi was conducted on campus under the guidance of Mr. Ayush Kumar Singh, a certified yoga instructor from S-VYASA University, Bengaluru. The session began with loosening exercises and Surya Namaskar, followed by a range of asanas including Vrikshasana, Garudasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Ardha Kati Chakrasana, Trikonasana, Tadasana, Bhujangasana, Vajrasana, Shashankasana, Padmasana, and Makarasana. The practice also included Anulom Vilom and concluded with a brief session of meditation.
Students also participated in a yoga-themed competition as part of Yoga Sangam and the Management Marathon – a 48-hour management challenge designed for the newly inducted students. As part of the activity, groups posed creatively in yoga asanas and captured photographs to mark their participation in the competition, blending wellness with team spirit and creativity.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director, IIM Ranchi, said, “Yoga is not just a practice but a philosophy that aligns the mind, body, and spirit. At IIM Ranchi, we strive to cultivate an atmosphere where academic excellence and personal well-being go hand in hand. The Yoga Sangam initiative is a reflection of our belief in the transformative power of yoga, and we are proud to contribute to this global movement.”
The Yoga Sangam at IIM Ranchi reflects the institute’s commitment to fostering physical and mental well-being as part of its holistic educational environment. By participating in International Day of Yoga each year, the institute continues to promote a culture of mindfulness, balance, and collective harmony.
