IIM Jammu Observes National Anti-Ragging Week (Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahotsav)


Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu observed National Anti-Ragging Day on 12th August, marking the commencement of National Anti-Ragging Week (Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahotsav) from 12th Aug to 18th Aug 2024 at its state-of-the-art Jagti Campus. The occasion was graced by Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu, Dr. Jaikamal, Chairperson, Anti-Ragging Committee, IIM Jammu, and Dr. Kapil Gumte, Co-Chairperson, Anti-Ragging Committee, IIM Jammu.

The event began with a lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the institute's commitment to a ragging-free environment. This was followed by a brief yet impactful address by Ms. Mansi Gupta, MBA 09, who emphasized the importance of treating everyone with dignity, fostering an inclusive and safe environment, and raising awareness about the harmful effects of ragging to create a healthy learning ecosystem.

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, underscored the importance of leadership in fostering an inclusive campus environment. He pointed out that the rigorous curriculum at IIM system leaves little room for unproductive activities such as ragging, emphasizing that any act of ragging is strictly prohibited and punishable. He also reiterated the institute’s open-door policy and commitment to creating a healthy, co-learning environment that serves as a model of responsibility for others to follow.

Cmdr. Kesavan Baskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu, shared insights from his own college and defence service days, where ragging was not acceptable. He stressed the importance of reporting any incidents related to ragging and reaffirmed IIM Jammu's commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus.

Dr. Jaikamal, Chairperson, Anti-Ragging, IIM Jammu, emphasized the critical importance of recognizing ragging as a punishable offence. He highlighted the necessity of bringing any such incidents to the attention of the authorities promptly and encouraged widespread participation in the week-long celebrations, which include various competitions. He urged everyone to "Say No to Ragging" and contribute to a respectful and positive campus environment.

The upcoming events as a part of National Anti-Ragging week will feature a workshop, poster-making and painting competition aimed at raising awareness about the significance of maintaining a ragging-free campus. The event culminated with the National Anthem, signifying the unity and integrity of the institution and its dedication to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all its students. As IIM Jammu continues to uphold its values of respect, inclusion, and responsibility, the National Anti-Ragging Week serves as a reminder of the institute’s dedication to fostering a healthy and inclusive campus culture.
