IIM Jammu Commemorates Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti with a Grand Cultural Celebration-reg


 Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM) Jammu proudly observed Gandhi Jayanti and Lal  Bahadur Shastri Jayanti with a heartfelt tribute to the legacies of these two stalwart leaders. The event, held on 02nd Oct  2023 at IIM Jammu’s state-of-the-art-campus Jagti, was a harmonious blend of reverence, culture, and artistic expression. 

The event commenced with the offering of floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by the Prof. B.S.  Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Chairperson, Student  Affairs, Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson,IPM, Dr. Baljeet Singh, Co-Chairperson, Placements and Cmdr. Kesavan  Baskkaran (R), Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu and other faculty, officers, staff and students at the Institute. Their  participation underscored the institution's commitment to upholding the values and principles cherished by these iconic  freedom leaders. 

The Inaugural Address was delivered by Dr. Ashish Kumar, Chairperson Student Affairs at IIM Jammu. Dr. Ashish Kumar's  enlightening words emphasized the enduring relevance of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in  today's world. His address served as an inspiration to the students and the audience alike. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu says, “Non-violence, truth, and sacrifice are the basic  doctrines of Gandhian and Shastri Ji’s philosophy. The Mahatma, a great thinker, a philosopher, and the father of our  nation, continues to be the epitome of great leadership, and simplicity. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, a great statesman and  second Prime Minister of India is always remembered for his slogan Jai Jawan! Jai Kisan! which reverberates even today  through the length and breadth of the country. For the progress of the nation, it is very necessary for the society to progress  ahead, and on this occasion, I urge each one of you to stand up, come forward and adopt the nearby villages, schools and  play your part in their socio-economic development. On the birth anniversaries of these Indian legends, let’s us all pledge  to take the learnings of these great personalities who have left an indelible mark on the lives of every Indian by working in  the interest of the nation.” 

Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu mentioned that "Today is a great day for all of us as its birthday of two stalwarts  from the freedom struggle, as rightly mentioned by Mahatma Gandhi, “Be the Change you want to be”, on this momentous  occasion, I urge everyone out here to imbibe the learnings from both these iconic leaders and implement it in your own  lives. At IIM Jammu, we always believe in nurturing not just future business leaders but responsible citizens who carry  forward the ideals of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Today's celebration was a step in that  direction."

 

The cultural extravaganza featured mesmerizing music performances by the Bandish Club, IIM Jammu which showcased  the rich musical heritage of India. The audience was enthralled by the melodies that echoed the soul of the nation. Adding  to the vibrancy of the celebration, the Groove Club, IIM Jammu presented captivating dance performances that seamlessly  fused traditional and contemporary dance forms. Their energy and grace left the audience spellbound. The Dharohar Club,  IIM Jammu in a spectacular display, portrayed the diverse cultural tapestry of India. Through art, music, and traditional  attire, they transported the audience on a colourful journey across the nation, celebrating its cultural richness. 

This event was a testament to IIM Jammu's commitment to holistic education, nurturing not only academic excellence but  also fostering an appreciation for culture and values. The event was attended by the students, faculty, officers, and staff of  the Institute and was followed by dinner.
