Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya hosted the “Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir,” a successful health camp on 28th September 2024, as part of the Government of India's Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign. The camp offered essential medical services free of cost to the institute's Safai Mitra (housekeeping staff), extending the services to a total of 80 participants including non-faculty members, faculty, and their families.
Dr. Vinita Sahay, the Director of IIM Bodh Gaya, along with key members of the institution: Prof. Sreelekha Mishra, Chairperson of Student Affairs, Prof. Suresh KG, Chairperson of Pragati - CSR Committee, and Prof. Vishal Wankhede, the SHS Nodal Officer, coordinated the event. Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) is a pivotal campaign with the theme of Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata, under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), officially launched by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2017.
A team of 12 medical professionals, including four specialized doctors—a gynecologist, a general physician, an eye specialist, and a dentist —provided consultations. 51 housekeeping staff, 17 non-faculty participants, and 12 faculty members and their families benefited from the services offered. Participants first registered and underwent screenings for vital signs like blood pressure, weight, and SpO2 levels followed by lab tests such as Random Blood Sugar (RBS) and Complete Blood Count (CBC). ECGs were conducted for those who required cardiovascular checks. Medicines prescribed by doctors were provided free of cost to the participants.
The housekeeping staff appreciated the initiative, with one staff member sharing, " We are thankful to receive such care and attention. The doctors were very attentive, they listened to my concern regarding tooth pain and offered me medicine"
Government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana were promoted to raise health awareness. The health camp reaffirmed IIM Bodh Gaya's commitment to the well-being of its community, aligning with the broader goals of health and social responsibility.
