17-Year Hiatus Ends: BRABU Set to Host East Zone Inter-University Women's Basketball Tournament


In a significant development for sports at the university level, BR  Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU) has been granted the prestigious opportunity to host the East Zone Inter University Women's Basketball Tournament. This momentous occasion comes after a considerable period of inactivity in hosting such events, highlighting the revived focus on promoting sports within the university. This event will be held at LN Mishra College of Business Management located at Bhagwanpur Chowk from 26 to 30 December. Preparations have started at the university level for this. A committee has been formed by the university to make this event successful.  In this competition, teams from various universities of Bihar as well as more than 40 universities of West Bengal, Orissa, Assam, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh will participate.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the tournament Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai stated that "This event not only promotes competitive spirit among women athletes but also encourages greater participation in sports at the university level. We are committed to build an conducive environment that supports and empowers our  athletes. Prof. Rai further said that the tournament is expected to draw participation from various  universities across the eastern region of India, showcasing the talent and determination of young women in sports. The organising committee is already hard at work preparing for the event, ensuring that all logistics, including facilities and accommodations, are in place for participating teams. The organizing committee is expected to work diligently to ensure a successful tournament. This momentous event marks a significant step towards the promotion of sports and the sporting culture within university and the region, Prof. Rai concluded.

Dr. Sanjay Sinha, former IAS and mentor of university sports council expressing his delight over this opportunity to host this prestigious tournament said that the efforts to secure this opportunity have been spearheaded by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai, whose tireless dedication and commitment to enhancing the sporting environment at BRABU has transformed the sporting environment within the university. Under his  leadership, BRABU has witnessed significant breakthroughs in various sporting disciplines. Initiatives including enhanced training programs and improved facilities for students that encourages student participation and athletic excellence. It is due to his tireless efforts BRABU got the opportunity to host the East Zone Tournament after a long hiatus of 17 years.

The officials present during the announcement included LS College Principal, Prof. Omprakash Roy, Proctor Prof. BS Rai, Registrar Dr. Aprajita Krishna, Prof. Rajeev Jha, Dr. Kantesh Kumar, Dr. Shartendu Shekhar, Dr. Navin Kumar among others.
